At the Open Health Lab Symposium, the Utrecht region presents itself as one big open health lab. Healthcare entrepreneurs can test, validate and implement their innovations there. During this symposium, two "open labs" will show what has happened and what is planned.

Like last year, the symposium will take place during Zorg & ict. During the Open Health Lab Symposium, it will become clear that Utrecht is one big hotspot for healthcare innovation.

Hanna Groen of ROM Utrecht Region: "We are lowering our walls here in Utrecht. The region is one big living lab where healthcare and knowledge institutions work together. This offers healthcare entrepreneurs plenty of opportunities to test, validate and implement their innovations."

"We think it is important to give innovation room in this densely populated province. The various labs bring healthcare entrepreneurs into contact with potential users in the home environment and in healthcare facilities. These in turn have the advantage of being able to quickly make use of healthcare innovations."

Pediatric Oncology

Utrecht in particular lends itself perfectly to this, Groen said. "We are located in the middle of the country and cooperate a lot with regions around us. Although there is no technical university here, there are many places where you can test in a very specific area. Think of elderly care and rehabilitation. And the Princess Maxima Center enables the testing of innovations in the field of pediatric oncology.

Umbrella

"We think it's important in Utrecht to position the entire region as one Open Health lab. In other words, an umbrella under which the specific labs can position themselves. Healthcare entrepreneurs from outside the region can also test, validate and implement their innovation. Groen: 'In Utrecht, you can find all the open labs via U-forward.

Two open labs will present at this year's symposium. Ilse Kant, team lead applied data sciences at UMC Utrecht, discusses the possibilities of the AI labs. Eelco Veldhuijzen talks about Traiectum. This partnership of five top sports clubs around FC Utrecht is active in improving sports performance in top sports that can also be applied in recreational sports.

Connecting link

ROM Utrecht Region functions as ls connecting link. Green: "We can point entrepreneurs to the possibilities. And if there is a subsidy or voucher scheme or other type of financial opportunity, we are happy to point entrepreneurs to it."

Tacklers needed

The Heart of Health startup square at Zorg & ict is typical of what ROM Utrecht Region is trying to do in the region: "We really want to put the spotlight on entrepreneurs who are tackling societal challenges with a smart business case, in this case in healthcare. Tacklers are needed for the challenge we have together."
