Accelerating innovation in healthcare by fusing people, processes and technology together. That, in a nutshell, is what consulting firm and interim service provider KALCIO Healthcare does. By partnering with Dutch Health Hub, KALCIO Healthcare is giving this endeavor a new impetus. To increase impact and reach, KALCIO Healthcare is also moving its annual, leading conference The Future of Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy (FMIR) to Royal Jaarbeurs.
"Whether they are patients, clients, employees, healthcare professionals, medical specialists, technologists, managers or companies, we want to bring all stakeholders together as much as possible," Ellen van de Zande, Manager of Communications and Events, explainsKALCIO Healthcare' sapproach. "To accelerate innovation, you have to do it together."
Three pillars
This human-centered approach is propped up by two other pillars. To optimize the quality, accessibility and outcomes of care, human input must be balanced with the deployment of technology and process. Or, as KALCIO Healthcare puts it on its own website, "KALCIO Healthcare contributes to a safe and efficient design of healthcare processes so that cooperation between people is optimal and investments in technology, ICT and the building yield maximum returns."
Image-based treatment
"A good example is the Deventer Hospital where KALCIO Healthcare set up the imaging around mammography," Van de Zande adds. "We were involved from the earliest plans until the first patient visited the breast center. So we work from strategic planning to operational level."
A similar move supported KALCIO Healthcare at Princess Máxima Center and UMC Utrecht in developing an Intra-Operative MRI OR. With UMC Utrecht, KALCIO Healthcare is also part of Imagine. This consortium, in which several hospitals, companies, educational and research institutions, participate, focuses on the further development of image-guided treatment of cancer patients.
Treating more efficiently
As far as Van de Zande is concerned, it is a textbook example of the kind of technological innovations that KALCIO Healthcare is committed to. "By combining radiotherapy and diagnostic imaging, the specialist can work much more precisely. That means less damage to the surrounding tissue. The greater accuracy also makes it possible to boost the dosage. As a result, the number of treatments in prostate cancer has been drastically reduced." This is not only pleasant for the patient, but because of the more efficient use of scarce resources, also good for the hospital.
Background
That KALCIO Healthcare has a name to uphold in the field of medical imaging is no coincidence. Van de Zande: "We all have a background in healthcare management combined with experience within healthcare as experts or former healthcare professionals. A quarter has a background in medical imaging and image-assisted treatment, so we have a big heart for that field."
FMIR Congress
This affinity is also reflected in the congress "The Future of Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy (FMIR)" that KALCIO Healthcare organizes annually. "FMIR is a platform to dialogue with each other on how to get technical innovations implemented faster," Van de Zande summarizes the idea behind the congress.
Hub for healthcare innovation
Because KALCIO Healthcare could no longer accommodate the growing interest at its old event location in Almere, FMIR will next year settle in Jaarbeurs Utrecht. With the move, KALCIO Healthcare expects to be able to offer at least 25 percent more visitors education and information. The goal of connecting experts with each other and the top companies in the market will also receive a boost. In doing so, the event fits seamlessly with the ambitions around healthcare innovation of both Jaarbeurs and the city of Utrecht, which is increasingly profiling itself as the Heart of Health. "By organizing FMIR in Jaarbeurs, we bring healthcare innovations to the shop floor faster and thus support the transformation of healthcare in the Netherlands," said KALCIO Healthcare director Karel Loerts. "Utrecht, with reputation as a hub for healthcare innovation, is the ideal location for the FMIR congress."
Through the simultaneous partnership with Dutch Health Hub, KALCIO Healthcare expects to have an even broader discussion of topics such as safety, ai, radiation hygiene, chain collaboration and leadership.
The conference "The Future of Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy (FMIR)" will be held June 3 and 4, 2025, at Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
