Personalized (or: precision) medicine has become an increasingly popular concept in recent years. But has deciphering DNA and making big data available so far really led to major medical breakthroughs?
"Already, advanced computer systems and artificial intelligence can significantly support healthcare workers. But beyond great promise, we must continue to distinguish between 'hope' and 'hype,'" said Prof. Marcel Levi. So although machine learning and artificial intelligence are gaining ground in medicine, these techniques do not yet seem to be truly capable of replacing or even supporting good medical decision-making. A matter of time or are these the emperor's clothes for now?
