SDB Group's acquisition of software vendor Avinty has shaken up the market for electronic patient records (EPD) in the mental health sector. With fifteen clients among the fifty largest mental health providers, SDB Group is the immediate market leader. This is the conclusion of consulting firm M&I/Partners based on its annual inventory of the EPD market in the mental health sector.
With thirteen customers, Nedap is the second-largest EPD supplier in the mental health sector. Together, SDB Group and Nedap have more than half (55 percent) of the fifty largest mental health organizations as customers. The top three is completed by PinkRoccade GGZ with seven clients, good for a 14 percent market share.
Outlier
Measured in organic growth, Adapcare drew an outlier. The software company saw its number of customers double from three to six. The vendors losing market share were Nexus, which went from seven to five customers, PinkRoccade (from eight to seven) and Medicore (from two to one).
Integrated packages
M&I notes that mental health providers are saying goodbye to separate administrative modules and increasingly opting for EHRs with an administrative module attached. The consultancy also looked at the use of patient portals by the fifty largest mental health organizations. Nedap's Caren is the most widely used in the market. Nedap has a market share of 22 percent.
Patient Portal
This does not yet include GGZ Friesland's switch. Because Infosupport stops providing Client360, GGZ Friesland is switching to Caren. SDB Group's Karify follows with a 14 percent market share. Adapcare can record the same increase as far as the patient portal is concerned as for the EPD. New to the list is Quli from Health Cloud Initiative (HCI), which is used by two mental health organizations.
Excerpt
M&I/Partners emphasizes that the study is limited to a cross-section of the EPD market in the mental health sector based on annual sales. Suppliers doing business with smaller vendors may still add up to a substantial portion of the total market. It is also worth noting that almost all vendors are also active in sectors other than the mental health sector. These include care for the disabled, home and elderly care and youth care, or even hospitals and independent clinics. Therefore, the survey does not say much about the overall performance of the EHR vendors.
