That's exactly what Alphatron Medical stands for, that innovation, they think that's important. But the staff at the outpatient clinic are also enthusiastic. They estimate that they have freed up about half an FTE by using the Alviscan. That time is now spent on other tasks." Speaking is Leendert-jan Doornbos, innovation coach at HagaZiekenhuis.
"As an innovation coach, I guide colleagues who are in the process of innovating. HagaZiekenhuis had been interested in a self-measurement kiosk for some time. That coincided with a request for help from the shop floor: couldn't certain tasks be performed automatically, such as measuring vital signs?" HagaZiekenhuis chose Alphatron Medical's Alviscan, an innovative solution that allows patients to independently measure their vital signs prior to the consultation. The self-measurement kiosk was placed in the hospital's innovation lab and actually never left. Leendert-jan: "We saw right away: this can help us with the labor shortage problem in the future."
The Alviscan is currently running as a light version in the gynecology department; a link to the EPRD will be realized later. The doctor enters the values measured by the Alviscan manually. Yet this already makes a big difference in the workload. Leendert-jan: "The doctors' assistants get more time for other tasks; they are very happy and literally said: 'We don't want to live without it anymore!' And the medical specialists experience that consultations run better. In the gynecology outpatient clinic, someone would stand for two and a half to three hours each day measuring blood pressure. This is no longer necessary. 97 percent of patients use the self-measurement kiosk without any problems; the kiosk is very user-friendly. Also, because the Alviscan uses clear images, video instructions and icons." An important added value of this innovation is that patients are actively involved in the care process.
